SEN & D - Special Educational Needs and Disabilities at Lakeside
The Trust's SEND Vision
“Believe, Achieve, Succeed”.
Our mission statement “Believe, Achieve, Succeed” reflects our understanding and beliefs.
The Trust is committed to improving outcomes for all pupils through providing an appropriate and high quality inclusive education to all members of the Academy community.
The Trust places inclusion at the heart of all its provision and seeks to develop a range of inclusive services to support learners with specific needs to ensure they are given the opportunity to fulfil their potential now and in the future.
The Trust is ambitious for its academies and pupils and believes that with the right support everyone can achieve their best, regardless of their circumstances or background.
Lakeside Primary Academy is an inclusive school where diversity is celebrated.
At Lakeside Primary Academy we aim to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school. We aim to be as inclusive as reasonably possible, in meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
The four broad ‘areas of need’ are Communication and Interaction, Cognition and Learning, Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties, and Sensory and Physical Needs.
Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator is Mrs Stacey Munton, she is supported by Miss Morley and Mrs Johnson. The team work together to support class teachers and teaching assistants in providing suitable provision for all children with SEND.
What is the Local Offer?
The Children and Families Bill came into effect from September 2014. Local Authorities and schools are required to publish and keep under review information about services they expect to be available for the children with Special Educational Needs.
This is the ‘Local Offer’. The intention of the Local Offer is to improve choice and transparency for families.
To find out more about the Local Offer from Derby City Council, detailing the services offered by the Local Education, Health and Care Authorities see the website below: https://www.derby.gov.uk/education-and-learning/derbys-send-local-offer/
Admissions
The admission arrangements for ALL pupils are in accordance with national legislation, including the Equality Act 2010. This includes children with any level of SEN; those with Education, Health and Care Plans and those without. The Local Authority (Derby City Council) administers admissions into the school.
Inclusion
As an inclusive school we promote education which values and accepts all children as equal members of the school community. We acknowledge children have the right to achieve as much as they can in their academic, physical, social and emotional development. Our SEN Policy reinforces the need for teaching that is fully inclusive. The Trust will ensure that appropriate provision will be made for all pupils with SEN.
Complaints
The school’s complaints procedure can be reviewed in full on our website.
